2024 Language Revitalization Fellowship Showcase

Updated: Aug 28

7000 LANGUAGES' FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The goal of the 7000 Languages’ Fellowship Program is to support and empower Indigenous individuals to participate in culture and language reclamation work in a way that best serves them and their communities.

We provide our fellows with technical training and support, access to our language learning software, as well as monetary compensation and, when applicable, academic credit. We also provide guidance around best practices for language documentation and teaching. Over the course of 10 weeks, our Fellows meet with 7000 Languages staff, each other, and alumni from previous years' fellowship programs. During these meetings we provide trainings, and they get the opportunity to learn about different language revitalization contexts and techniques from their peers and support each other throughout the work. At the end of the Fellowship Program, every fellow will have created language learning materials for their endangered language that will be published and made available for free to both the learning community and the general public.

THE SHOWCASE

During our virtual showcase, each of our Fellows presented on their learning materials, the context of their language and community, and their experience working with 7000 Languages. We celebrated them and all their hard work, and shared about our organization's goals to empower communities to teach, learn and sustain their endangered language.

LET'S SUPPORT EVEN MORE COMMUNITIES

With over 2,100 applicants for this year's fellowship, the many individuals and communities who applied only further enforced how dire the need is for language revitalization resources.

We spoke with folks of all ages who were determined to sustain their language, heritage and culture. Imagine the possibilities if we had the financial funding to support all of the communities and individuals working to teach and learn their endangered language.

With a donation of just $10 you can start providing a community with the resources they need to begin the critical revitalization process. Supporting our mission grows our impact, and shows people that their languages, voices and cultures matter.

We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to the AMB Foundation, Esperantic Studies Foundation, and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for their support of this program.
