Learn Kaqchikel, a Mayan Language of Guatemala

About the Kaqchikel Language

The Kaqchikel Mayans settled in Guatemala as early as 300 AD. In the 1600s, their stories and language were collected into a written history called the Kaqchikel Chronicles.

Although the language is very old, Kaqchikel is still spoken by nearly 500,000 people in Guatemala! Some Guatemalan schools even teach students in Kaqchikel.

As a Mayan language, Kaqchikel is related to other Mayan languages like K'iche' (Quiché) and Yucatec Maya. It is one of the most studied of the Mayan languages and has a rich history.
