Doyon Foundation provides educational, career, and cultural opportunities to the Alaska Native people of the Doyon region. The Doyon region covers 12.5 million acres in Interior Alaska, and includes 10 of the 20 Alaska Native languages. Doris Miller, executive director of Doyon Foundation, says: “As Native people, our languages are part of our identity and are very precious to us. Our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deserve to have the opportunity to learn their language.” In order to achieve this, Doyon Foundation has created a Koyukon course for Yukon-Koyukuk School District, and plans to complete language-learning software for 5 of the 10 Doyon region languages by 2019.
